Day 41 - Interlaken, Switzerland -> Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Tues, July 23
11.2 Miles (1307.2 total)

We headed out for Lauterbrunnen first thing in the morning since the campsite Dad was looking at doesn't take reservations and it's first come first serve. It's beautiful here. It's known as the town of 72 waterfalls. It's definitely an exaggeration - there are maybe three or four big ones you can take good pictures of, and maybe 10 to 15 little ones you can see coming down the cliffs. And that's what this area is - a town in a valley surrounded by vertical sheets of rock on each side and views of snow covered mountains. Riding to the campsite, we were in shade almost the entire time from one cliff, and our tents were in the shade of the cliffs again by 4:00 p.m.! There's also a stream from the mountains not far from where our tents are. The water is freezing! But it was fun to stick out feet in.

After getting here, we took Michal's advice and took a gondola up to Murren. If we went even higher to Piz Gloria, we could've seen another Bond filming location from On Her Majesty's Secret Service! From there, we walked about an hour and a half to Grutschalp to take another gondola down. But the path was gorgeous, with amazing views of the mountains across the valley.

We got lunch and dinner at the store in town, took a bus back to the campsite, and relaxed.
