Day 25 - Mantua, Italy -> Gaium, Italy

Sun, July 7
41.9 Miles (806.6 total)

Started off a little worrisome today! We started riding, and almost immediately, my bike ran into an issue where I would rotate the pedals, but nothing would happen. I was peddling and going nowhere! Fortunately, it started working again, but the issue seemed to come and go at random. We made it to a bike shop in Lazise a few miles from our Warm Showers host, and luckily they were able to fix it! Big sigh of relief.

Other than that, really good riding today! We followed the EuroVelo 7 again, which followed a beautiful river - a cool, cloudy blue colored water that looked like it would be heaven to jump in. And lots of people on the EV7! Always encouraging to see other people out walking and cycling. We stopped briefly in the town of Borghetto - just gorgeous. Dad said something like how it's known as the Venice of that region. Lots of water flowing through the town and very pretty. After that, we had lunch in Peschiera del Garda, the southern most town of Lake Garda. Again, just gorgeous. Both Peschiera and Lazise were huge tourist places, with shops and restaurants and gelato everywhere. And so pretty on the lake! Just like being on the Amalfi Coast again!

Then we met Alberto, our Warm Showers host. He's actually a bike mechanic and drove out to Lazise with a spare tire in case the bike shop couldn't fix my issue. Then he met us during our ride to his place on his bike and rode with us the rest of the way, telling us information and history about the area as we went. Like all our hosts, he's just so nice and accommodating and helpful. I'm really glad to have a host again - meeting locals like this was one of my favorite parts of our first tour on the EuroVelo 6. His wife, Barbara, made us a big dinner, he continued to tell us interesting trivia about the region and bikes, and we eventually called it a night.
