Day 1 - Naples, Italy

Thur, June 13
12.8 Miles

Got some sleep on our flight to Lisbon, Portugal. We landed around 11:00am, and got through customs about an hour later - don't schedule a short transfer flight if you're traveling internationally!

Another note about yesterday - they actually weigh and measure your carry-on from Newark to Lisbon. We were lucky everything was up to code. And when we got to the airport in Portugal, I couldn't find a water fountain anywhere. Feel like Europe is always stingy with water.

We made it to Italy! Landed around 6:30pm, picked up our bikes from baggage claim, and took them outside to piece together. We finally got on the road at 8:45pm, right as it was getting dark and in a hurry cuz check in at our bed and breakfast (Corte Catalana) closed at 10:00pm. The roads were not great at first. The GPS took us down some slummy looking areas, down roads meant for two cars, yet so narrow that even we had to stop when a car came by. Then the GPS wanted us to go down one road that had become so overgrown with trees and bushes, no one could get through. And when we tried to find the next closest road around it, we hit a dead end, and two small dogs from the house there started barking and following us for a few feet. Needless to say, after some wrong turns and GPS trouble, we were booking it to the bed and breakfast, and ended up getting there exactly at 10:00pm. Dario (the owner's son) give us a garage to put our bikes in and gave us the name of a pizza place we could walk to that he recommended, Azz Ch Pizz. Our first pizza in Italy! It was thin, which I like, but floppy, so much so that I rolled up my second slice like a fruit roll up and ate it like that. Still really tasty though! After stretching, a shower, and washing our clothes in the sink, it was 12:20am and time for bed.
