60.9 Miles (1006.8 total)
LAST DAY! We had a good ride! We wanted to start a little early, since it was supposed to rain later. We had breakfast at the hotel, wrapped up an egg sandwich to go with aluminum foil Dad bought from the dollar store, packed up the bikes, and hit the road. This is the haziest it's been in a long time, with air quality listed in the orange. But it got a little better as the day went on.
Overall, today went better than expected! We were supposed to do two 30 mile days - one to a campsite, then to Pat's. But the campsite flooded and we decided to do a long one and get to Pat's a day early. The first 14 miles were slightly uphill, but not bad. The wind really picked up at times, and we had to fight it. But we just went a little slower and kept chugging along. We stopped at a Chick-fil-A two miles from Pat's and celebrated with a shake. Then we climbed the second steepest hill of the entire trip to get to Pat's place. And with good timing too! An hour or two after we got there, we heard thunder and a downpour came not long after. It was nice not to be caught in the middle of it. We relaxed for the rest of the evening.
Nice to be done, to not have to pack up and go in the morning, and to not have to sit on a bike seat for hours! But this was another great trip. This has been my favorite way to travel. Because we travel slower, I end up remembering the places better, and the experiences and people you meet along the way always stay with you. And it's nice to spend this time with my Dad. These trips will always be something we can share together.
