Day 9 - Watertown, NY -> Kingston, Ontario

Mon, July 3
55.6 Miles (421.2 total)

We made it to Canada!
We were feeling well rested from our day off and looking forward to a ferry ride and easy day today of about 35 miles to Kingston, Ontario. We had a host waiting for us and House of Doner on the menu for dinner. We had doner on our Eurovelo 6 trip in 2018, and I had been craving it again ever since. We were cruising, only stopping briefly for a light rain to pass. But when we biked about 26 miles to Cape Vincent for the ferry, it was temporarily out of order. We were crushed... Especially since we now had to bike a little over 25 miles for the closest bridge. We still biked really well getting to the bridges, but crossing them was the most difficult thing all day. They were super narrow, with our bike bags and handlebars constantly bumping into the railings on each side. I basically had to shuffle, to keep between my bags and so my shins wouldn't keep hitting the pedals. It was not fun. But the view of the Thousand Islands was gorgeous from the bridges. It was neat to see small houses on some of the islands, with what looked like just a little more land than I have at my house. The campsite was close to the Canadian border, and we set things up for the rest of the day. But this is the second campsite where the water is gross. This time, it tastes kinda like a pool. But it's drinkable...
It's been really hazy the last could days. Couldn't see the Finger Lakes, couldn't see too much of the Thousand Islands... Whether it's wildfire smoke or fog, visibility has been low these last couple days.
