Day 22 - Dummerston, VT -> Keene, NH

Sun, July 16
31.3 Miles (941.5 total)

Thank goodness it was only a 30 mile day today! Yesterday, we had checked the forecast, and it said rain and thunderstorms all day starting at 2:00am. We were awake between 5:00am and 5:30am, and there was no rain yet, so we thought we had dodged it. We didn't sleep well - our campsite was pretty rocky, and I was sweating just laying in my tent last night. But not long after waking up, we heard the sound of the first few drops on our tents, and we rushed to take down the tents and pack things up as it slowly started to rain more. That, and the mosquitos were strong motivators as well. After we had packed up, we went to the bathroom to brush our teeth. When we came out, it was pouring. There was no point in waiting to see if it would stop, so we started and were on the road by 6:30am.
Rained all morning. This was the hardest rain we had ridden in in a long time. We passed yards that looked a couple inches above ankle deep in water, and areas where the river looked like it was close to overflowing onto sidewalks. There's been a lot of water up here. We did pass Covered Bridge #1! Apparently, New Hampshire has its own covered bridge list too.
We got to the hotel just before 10:00am. We got to our room and started the process of taking stuff off the bikes to dry, then showered, did laundry, and hung that stuff to dry as well. Then we had a chill day! Went to see Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1, and called it a day!
